A Guide Towards Being Healthy.

We live in a society where we are often told to take care of our diet, to stay fit, and to achieve a good physique. Your physical appearance is a topic of concern at every family function and your relatives would come up to you and bluntly suggest you some weird methods to lose or gain weight, get taller, or have more fair skin. Some of those relatives would get a step further and would give a complete diet plan, orally. This happens because our society values physical appearance quite a lot. We are often suggested to maintain as much distance from junk food as we can and are advised to strictly follow a balanced diet. If we take a deep analysis of the topic, we’ll realize that it is beneficial for us and a good physical appearance is a nice thing to have. We give this much importance to our physical health still we fail to acknowledge the mental diet, our mental physique. Almost no one talks about being mentally healthy even though it is essential for our physical health as well.
When we are mentally ill and consume a balanced diet, it would not benefit us as much as it should have. We are aware of the marvelous impact a balanced diet can have on our body, it is a vital element for our growth but we always forget about the growth of our mind, our thoughts. No one ever talks about a mental diet even though it is as much important as our physical diet. Having good physical health but miserable mental health would leave us crippled. Therefore, it is extremely crucial for us to maintain our mental diet along with our physical diet.
Now the question arises, what is a mental diet? Is it our thoughts? Well, in a way it is our thoughts but a more precise answer would be the things that give shape to our thoughts like the environment we live in that is the things we surround ourselves with, the people we live around, the books we read, and the movies we watch. Everything that can affect our thoughts and navigate it towards the negative or the positive aspect is a part of our mental diet.
Having a balanced mental diet is vital for our overall growth. Without a good mental diet, we would be deprived of a healthy life. To have a balanced mental diet means that we should surround ourselves with the people who emit positive energy and stay as far as we can from the people who spread negative energy around them like confetti. Now, how would we be able to recognize the person who spreads negativity or positivity? The answer is quite simple; you should stay away from the people who have a problem for every solution and hold on to the people who squeeze out a positive outcome even in a situation that looks awful from every angle. Although we are not given an option before our birth to select the kind of people we’ll live around; our family members, but we sure do have an option while selecting our friends. It is our family and friends who contribute to a large portion of our thoughts so we should use the opportunity of having to pick our friends and be very careful while selecting the people who we are going to hang out with and if there is someone who isn’t good for our mental health then we should filter them out without showing a single shred of hesitation.
Though a large part of your thought is shaped by the people you spend your time with, several other factors also contribute towards shaping your thoughts. Negative ideas and thoughts don't necessarily impregnate your thoughts through people; it can also climb up into your mind through the books you read or in a tech-driven world like ours, through the posts you come across online, through the TV shows or the movies. Therefore, it becomes essential for us to read good books or articles that do not spread negativity, watch movies that fill us with positivity because those are the things that’ll keep our mind healthy and deliver the feeling of happiness eventually.

To sum up we can say that, having a good or better said, a balanced mental diet will germinate prosperous thoughts which in turn will serve as the base element towards building your life on the pedestal of happiness and prosperity. I once read a quote over the web that said, “You are the books you read, the movies you watch, the music you listen to, the people you spend time with, the conversations you engage in” and it is a statement that is completely true because whatever you take inside will grow and make you. Therefore, be mindful of the things you put into your body, both physically and mentally.
